Happy New Year to everyone! We are glad to be back after some time off. God is really directing us to be more effective in our ministry with your kids and I hope that you join us in this journey.
As a part of our Journey through John, we are still on our experience of knowing more about who God is. We are at a point in our study in this book that this group of attributes point us to how we are to trust God with our lives knowing and believing that he is “in control” of everything. We are using the theme of Football as we are going to use different aspects of a coach(God) and the control he has over his team and how the players (people) are to submit and trust the calls and decisions the coach makes according to his “game plan” (the bible) because He is “N control!” Feel free to change up whatever you like to fit your ministry, even change up the theme, but most important have fun with it. Are you ready for some football?
Episode 1: Authority
There are really different ways you can spin this. Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and here on here on earth. He has authority and power over all things and this was given by God (Matthew 28:18). Because Jesus has been given this authority all are to respect and honor him. We are to trust the calls he makes in our lives and know that we too with his spirit have this authority. Just like Jesus honored and obeyed the authority of God, his Father, he also honored the authority of the government while he was here. To follow Jesus’ example of what it means to respect authority, we have also been given others over us how have authority to lead us and help us grow as kids to adulthood and even further. To be like Christ we are to honor or respect these authority figures as they have been appointed by God.
Bright Idea: Jesus is the one how has the power to control all things
Memory Verse: And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18
Attribute: Authority-having the power to make decisions and push someone to obey
Jesus had done 2 great miracles or lets say displays of his power and authority. Can you imagine seeing a huge storm a storm that is so bad that you think you are going t0 die and there is no hope? Jesus, your friend is sleeping during this time. What? The boat is rocking, the waves are hitting the boat, the wind is blowing and everyone on the boat is screaming in fear! Jesus is…SLEEPING!
The storms that happen in our lives…storms can mean a tough time for us, you know like things going on at school, with friends or even bad things happening to you at home. But you this time may scare us and we may be asking for help and but we don’t see Jesus doing anything. It may seem like he is sleeping and he doesn’t care about us. But you now that really isn’t true. It’s just that, nothing is too big to scare our God or even have him worried. Jesus just wants us to trust him. We’ve learned and seen him do awesome things so lets just trust him. Put your faith in him and he will take care of the rest.
After he calmed the storm and set the men free from their torment with the demons inside, the whole crowd of people were amazed and shocked at what he did. Let’s always point others to Jesus. When he does something awesome in our lives we don’t need to take any credit, we just need to point people to the God who has everything under control because he has the authority over everything.
